Tozando Never Fails to Deliver

Suzaku Iaito are the absolute best. I recommend it to all my students. The iaito I have purchased from Tozando have lasted me nearly two decades of daily practice and their constitution is just as good today as when they first arrived and the Suzaku are the best of them! This one I am particularly proud of. Thank you!

First iaito for many years of Iaido practice.

I had been deciding on whether to go full custom or get a semi custom, luckily my wife and I took a trip to Japan and by obligation I had to stop by Tozando while there. The shop was super cool and great customer service they handed me a physical catalogue and I let my wife choose out the pieces she liked because I wanted my iaito to reflect her when I practice in class. I ordered it and waited anxiously for it to arrive months later and it was perfect! I definitely have bragging rights now that my iaito was Japanese made, but it feels great and looks impressive and always reminds me of my Japan trip and the awesome Tozando shop experience. Thanks alot!

Best Iaito ever.

I ordered a full custom Iaito - Suzaku from Tozando. I live in California, and was tired of using the cheaper iaitos available locally.

I’ve had the custom Iaito for a few weeks now, and it’s easily the best I’ve ever used. The balance and build quality is absolutely unrivaled. The fittings and Ito are tight and silent. Customizing the tsuka to my hand size and using quality materials makes a huge difference in my day to day kata practice.

I also added the extra finely lined Saya option. Drawing the sword and practicing noto is such a pleasure with it. I practice Koto Ei Ri Ryu, and we have many forms of chiburi noto. Having an excellent saya is a revelation - and actually helps to perfect my form and movement.

The iaito looks amazing, and feels like a natural extension of myself. If you are a serious student of iaido, I’d definitely get an iaito from Tozando.

Dr. White’s Diagnosis

The shipment packaging of the Iaito was exceptional. There were multiple layers of robust protection with no damage to either the cartonnage or the sword within. Tozando placed a spacer between the tsuba and the koiguchi to ensure that even rough handling during transport would not jam the hamachi too deeply into the mouth of the saya. The blade itself was nicely polished with no unsightly scratches. The hamon was artistically etched onto the blade in a convincing and visually pleasing pattern. Running my thumbnail down the ha demonstrated there were no tiny ragged edges or dents. Likewise, running a soft cotton cloth down the blade showed us there were no defects of the blade polish. Very smooth. At eye level sighting down the blade showed a slight misalignment between the tsuka and the blade. Also, there was a discernible bend in the blade at the monouchi. Both issues were easily corrected at my workbench. I ordered the extra smooth option for the saya. The draw and noto were ,in fact, buttery smooth with no perceptible rattles or impediments. The sageo was OK basic black but I installed an after market silk cord that I especially liked. The quality of the furniture was superb. I had ordered the various fittings in the hope they would mesh well together. To me the esthetics are perfect. To reflect my advancing age, Ichose a cherry blossom main theme so there is a personal meaning therein. This sword is my close companion and I feel Honored to own it! Dr. White Yondan
