● How to Grind the Ink ●
-
Add a small amount of water to the flat area of the inkstone (called the "oka").
-
Hold the ink stick vertically or at a slight angle, and gently rub it in a "V" or circular motion.
-
Once the ink thickens, drip some into the well area of the inkstone (called the "umi").
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 to create a concentrated ink base, then dilute with water as needed to adjust the consistency.
