U.S. Customers – Customs Duties & Import Fees

1. Introduction

Thank you for shopping with Tozando.

This page explains how customs duties and import-related fees are handled for orders shipped to the United States.

Due to recent changes in U.S. import regulations under President Trump’s tariff policy,
all shipments entering the United States are now subject to customs processing and duties, regardless of order value.

2. Standard Import Charges

For most products shipped from Japan to the United States, the following charges may apply:

■ Reciprocal Tariff

  • Approximately 15% of the declared order value

■ Carrier Advance / Brokerage Fee

  • Typically USD 30-40

  • Amount varies depending on the carrier (e.g. DHL, UPS, etc.)

These fees are assessed and collected by the shipping carrier, not by Tozando.

3. Section 232 Tariffs (Aluminum & Steel Products)

Certain products contain aluminum or steel components and therefore fall under Section 232 tariffs, including:

  • Iaito

  • Kendo Men

  • Arrows

■ Section 232 Tariff Rate

  • Standard rate: up to 50%

Tozando submits additional documentation specifying aluminum content,
which may allow the applied tariff to be reduced where possible.

⚠️ Please note:
Final duty assessment is determined by U.S. Customs and the shipping carrier, not by Tozando.

4. Important Notice: Incorrect Duty Charges

Since late August, U.S. Customs and shipping carriers have experienced a significant increase in shipments requiring duty assessment.

As a result, incorrect or excessively high duty charges have been reported more frequently.

5. What to Do If You Are Charged Excessive Duties

If you receive an unusually high customs duty invoice, please take the following steps immediately:

  1. Contact the shipping carrier right away

  2. Do not make payment without confirmation

Carrier Contact Information

Timing is critical:
If the shipment clears customs before a correction request is submitted,
the duty amount may become non-adjustable, and payment may be required as charged.

6. Our Request to Customers

Tozando prepares invoices, HS codes, country of origin information, and Section 232 documentation accurately and in good faith.

However, customs duties are ultimately assessed and collected by U.S. Customs and the shipping carrier.

We kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation in promptly contacting the carrier should any issues arise.
