Bokuto, grown and crafted in Hokkaido, Japan.

Hokkaido oak, which grows strongly and withstands the wind and snow of the cold northern lands, can reach heights of up to 35 meters and some trees are more than 1,000 years old.

The oak and its characteristics have been thoroughly examined, and the wooden swords are carefully finished one by one by skilled craftsmen in the company's specialist woodworking workshop.

The Obi

This is a basic obi designed for use in iaido. It features a slightly stiffer polyester core for 220cm of its length to provide support for your breathing and practice, whilst the remaining length makes it easy to tie. 380cm by cm.

The Saya

This saya is designed for use with our Standard or Deluxe models of Bokuto. Please bear in mind that due to Bokuto being made from natural materials and handmade a perfect fit cannot be guaranteed. It will not fit specialized Bokuto, like those for specific Koryu or Suburi.

It is made from black PVC plastic and is approximately 78cm long.

Beautiful Oak Bokuto

The oak Bokuto is a thing of beauty - the wood grain and finish are exquisite. It draws and swings perfectly and its weight, length and balance are ideal for me as a beginner. I was getting elbow pain from a heavier plastic katana but this Bokuto has eliminated that strain. The saya and obi are perfectly functional. The obi is relatively narrow and stiff, which is fine for home practice, but my dojo advised me to use a broader, softer Nishijin Cotton Kaku Obi for better saya stability. I would recommend upgrading the Obi as you progress.

Very good to get you started.

This pack is very good for the beginner. I have the extra obi from this pack when I buy the uniform set. But the quality of the bokken is really nice, the weight is good for beginner. The Tsuba is snugged and tight (kinda hard to put on but it will not move during practice.)
