After repeated polishes and coats of lacquer the entire body of the yumi is finished in a deep and iridescent scarlet that changes hue in the lgiht. This is "Aoi" iro is where the yumi gets its name.

Because of its high elasticity and stability, the Aoi is popular amongst kyudoka of all ages and abilities - it has a well earned reputation for being easy to use.
