NOT WHITE OAK

I just ordered 5 of these for my dojo (we practice kenjutsu) and do a lot of partner practice (kumitachi) – so we require a solid bokken (Japanese white oak). I've personally been training for 20 years now, and these felt very light, almost hollow feeling. When I tried them out during a practice I was concerned it would crack with every strike or block. They also seemed thicker and the kisaki was just rounded down, not prominent, and not like their old bokken.

I am curious how they are going to hold up, but I am very concerned about the quality, fingers crossed.

Thank you very much for your review! As in the product description, these bokuto are made from Hokkaido oak, which will vary from the variety of wood known colloquially as 'white oak.' While suitable for light contact, we would not recommend these bokuto for heavy contact styles.
