About Shin-Zen-Bi (Truth, Goodness, and Beauty)

In kyūdō, Shin-Zen-Bi represents a central ideal to which practitioners aspire.

  • Shin (Truth) refers to striving for correct shooting technique with every shot.
  • Zen (Goodness) means maintaining a calm and balanced mind while valuing courtesy, respect, and compassion.
  • Bi (Beauty) represents the ideal beauty that naturally emerges when Shin (correct technique) and Zen (proper state of mind) are united and expressed through one's shooting.

Together, these three principles form one of the foundational ideals of kyūdō practice.
