Uesugi Kenshin (1530–1578) stands as one of the most celebrated daimyo of Japan’s Sengoku period, remembered for his military skill, disciplined leadership, and fierce rivalry with Takeda Shingen. Born Nagao Kagetora in Echigo Province, Kenshin rose amid the conflicts of the sixteenth century to become one of the most formidable commanders of his age. His repeated campaigns against Shingen, particularly their encounters at Kawanakajima, became among the most famous episodes of the Sengoku period. Kenshin was also deeply devoted to Bishamonten, the Buddhist guardian deity associated with warriors, and his faith became closely intertwined with his identity as a military leader. Remembered by later generations as the “Dragon of Echigo,” Kenshin’s legacy endures as a symbol of martial discipline, conviction, and the warrior culture of a country divided by war.

Crafted in Japan by Akamu in Hokkaido, this bokuto is made from carefully selected Hokkaido oak, prized for its strength, resilience, and refined grain. Each piece is shaped with precision and respect for traditional form, resulting in a weapon that feels balanced and alive in the hands. The bokuto is laser engraved with Uesugi Kenshin’s name, kamon (family crest), and personal signature (kao) while the opposite side bears his jisei, offering a final reflection from one of the Sengoku period’s most renowned warrior lords. Together, these details connect the piece to the martial and spiritual traditions that surrounded Kenshin throughout his life. Both a functional training tool and a meaningful tribute, this bokuto embodies the discipline, conviction, and formidable presence that have defined Uesugi Kenshin’s legacy for generations.
