Gosho-ha Niten Ichi-ryu is a branch of the Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu tradition, the school of swordsmanship founded by the legendary Miyamoto Musashi (c. 1584–1645). Drawing upon the principles Musashi developed through decades of martial experience, the tradition preserves a curriculum of kata that emphasizes strategy, adaptability, and decisive action. The Gosho branch was established in 2004 under the leadership of Shihan Gosho Motoharu, a long-time instructor in the tradition who had studied under Aoki Kikuo. As with many classical Japanese martial arts, different branches of Hyoho Niten Ichi-ryu preserve their own lines of transmission while maintaining the core teachings of Musashi's swordsmanship.

The kata of Gosho-ha Niten Ichi-ryu are practiced with traditional wooden swords and are designed to develop correct posture, timing, distance, and coordinated body movement. Although the school is best known for its distinctive two-sword methods using both the long and short swords together, the curriculum also includes forms performed with a single long sword, reflecting Musashi's teaching that the underlying principles of swordsmanship remain constant regardless of the weapon in hand. Through the continued practice of these kata, the Gosho-ha tradition preserves a living connection to one of Japan's most celebrated schools of classical swordsmanship.
