Akamu - Yagyu Shinkage-ryu Bokuto
NO EXTRA CHARGES
Yagyu Shinkage-ryu is one of Japan's oldest and most influential schools of classical swordsmanship. Founded upon the teachings of Kamiizumi Nobutsuna and later inherited by Yagyu Munetoshi (Sekishusai), the tradition became closely associated with the Yagyu family and eventually served as one of the official sword schools of the Tokugawa Shogunate. For more than four centuries, its teachings have been preserved through a carefully transmitted curriculum of kata that embodies both technical skill and strategic thinking.
The kata of Yagyu Shinkage-ryu emphasize controlling an opponent through precise timing, distance, and relaxed yet decisive movement rather than relying on strength alone. Practiced with traditional bokuto and the school's distinctive leather-covered fukuro shinai, these forms teach practitioners to remain composed while adapting naturally to changing circumstances. Through the study of its kata, students continue to preserve one of Japan's most celebrated martial traditions and the principles that have defined it since the late sixteenth century.
