Yagyu-ryu Fukuro Shinai
The Yagyu style Fukuro shinai is made from a single piece of bamboo that is split multiple times down from the tip to allow for more flexibility and a more forgiving striking area. It is then wrapped in thick, high-quality leather to further add durability and protection. This is then ornately tied near the tsuka end to complete this simple and yet effective tool for helping to better understand the art of Yagyu Shinkage-ryu.
Yagyu Shinkage-Ryu is one of the oldest schools of Japanese swordsmanship. Founded by Kamiizumi Nobutsuna in 1565, the school was known simply as Shinkage-ryu. Nobutsuna passed on the school to his student, Yagyu Munetoshi, applying his name to the school. Today, the Yagyu Shinkage-ryu is still to this day one of the more revered styles of Japanese swordsmanship, both in Japan and abroad.
