Hand-Made in Kyoto

Our zekken are all hand-made at our headquarters in Nishijin, Kyoto. Tare zekken are slipped over the central flap of your tare in Kendo, Naginata, and Jukendo, we provide several different styles and can also embroider your country's flag or dojo logo if we are supplied with acceptable data.

Please keep in mind that these zekken are made using genuine aizome dyed fabric. As such, on occasion a small amount of aizome can be transferred to the clarino letters on some zekken. While we do apologize for any inconvenience, this is a very common occurrence and can be expected on these traditionally made items.

Improved Fabric:

We have recently begun using an improved material for our HeatPress Zekken. This material has a more reflective surface with improved durability and appearance. Please be aware that the zekken you receive may differ from items that have been received in the past.

Production time:

Up to 3 weeks due to heavy demand.

Embroidered, with 3 Kanji in B

The zekken fits snugly onto my tare. I could even put my sports watch inside (with straps detached) so that I can have it record my heart rate during training, and the zekken stays in place, unlike the default zekken that came with my bogu purchased from another vendor.

My zekken arrived with a certain smell to it, which got washed off easily with just one wash in the washing machine, along with my gi and hakama in laundry nets.

The embroidery had a little bit of fraying and loose threads but it's not an issue to me. Everything still looks good.

It wasn't perfect out of the box, hence the 4 stars. But otherwise it is a great zekken, and would purchase from Tozando again in the future.

great customer service

Very good value, were able to accommodate our custom dojo design and also got it made/shipped promptly in time for a shiai. Would highly recommend!

The embroidered ones are highly recommended!

We have been ordering these for our dojo for years and are very satisfied!
The great thing is that they are cheaper here than in our country ;)

Beautiful, but fell apart

I purchased this product with the clarino leather on shashiko cotton option. It was beautiful when it first arrived but the letters began falling off within approximately one month. I was a little concerned when it arrived and there were stray threads on the inside and outside of the nafuda. This is my third time purchasing a nafuda (previous two from other vendors) and my others have never had this issue. Pretty disappointed, particularly because of the added cost.

Awesome.

I chose to have it embroidered in sashiko cotton, and I must say that the quality is visible and felt at the touch. Awesome work!
