While beautifully made and aesthetical by itself, your Suzaku remains a tool for use in martial arts that has been loved and appreciated throughout the world by deshi and sensei alike for many years.

Your Iaito, Your Design.

Make the Suzaku yours. With our flagship model, you choose every aspect of your iaito, so it is made to fit your practice, level, and taste. Despite the plethora of available options, ordering is straightforward. If you need more details and bigger images, please check our iaito catalog.

Quality takes time. Please allow our workshop 3 to 4 months to manufacture your next instrument.

*Iaito are made with an aluminum-zinc alloy blade and cannot be sharpened.

Custom Iaito

I love the variety of selections from Tozando. I only wish the customer could have a choice of a type of blade for an Iaito. If you want steel from Tozando and that jumps straight to Shinken. I wish we could have the option of a steel iaito. My last iaito from Tozando which is aluminum steel broke and the blade went flying through the air and I almost had a fatal accident in my dojo. I did nothing out of the ordinary and was just doing kata. Took it to a metal expert and without hesitation the expert said that aluminum will do that over time and aluminum will not last as long as steel. So that is why I gave it a 4/5 rating is because I really wish there was an option from Tozando to have a steel iaito, but if you choose steel from Tozando, that will put you in the Shinken category and the base price will be at 6000.00 USD. This iaito that I just recently got from Tozando because it is an aluminum blade will only be used for demonstrations and not daily training. I must have some luck elsewhere to find a steel iaito which is NOT a shinken. Of course they will say aluminum will not rust, well in my dojo we have an oil ritual so rust will not be a problem.

Thank you very much for your review, Kevin! We do truely appreciate feedback and understand the issues you have raised. While we do understand that many practitioners would like to use steel swords, this is simply something that Tozando would not be legally able to provide. Japanese law does not allow for the production of and strictly enforces control over items that are deemed as weapons, which steel bladed swords, sharp or not, are considred. Traditionally made swords are legal in Japan due to their cultural significance; however as these items are each hand-made by licenced smiths, they can be quite expensive to purchase. We do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, but kindly ask for your understanding.

Brilliant craftsmanship brought tears to my eyes as I unsheathed for the first time and performed my forms. Holding the blade felt like meeting an old friend. Well worth every penny
