Historical Background

Akechi Mitsuhide was a renowned Japanese samurai and a masterful tactician whose strategic brilliance left an indelible mark on the late Sengoku period. Mitsuhide played a pivotal role in several key military campaigns, showcasing his exceptional ability to outmaneuver his opponents. 

Mitsuhide's most notable military achievement was the decisive betrayal and subsequent attack that led to the downfall of his former lord, Oda Nobunaga, at Honnoh-ji Temple. This bold move highlighted his capacity for high-stakes decision-making and strategic execution. Despite his controversial legacy, Mitsuhide's prowess as both a tactician remains a significant part of his historical reputation.

Specifications

The Akechi Koshirae is known as a treasure of the Akechi clan and this Koshirae is a faithful replica of the original family treasure now exhibited at the Tokyo National Museum.

The Fuchigane is made of iron, and Fuchi/Kashira is made from buffalo horn. The theme of the Tsuba is Hyotan Sukashi. The Tsuka and Sageo match in navy blue silk, and the Tsuka is wrapped around a black Tsukasame. Diamond-shaped Menuki is finished with an antiqued silver plate. Diamond-shaped Menuki Deluxe Shu Urumi Saya Handmade in Japan.

This sword has great balance with a reinforced alloy of zinc and aluminum. Each element of this sword is carefully assembled by hand by expert blacksmiths who are also in charge of the manufacture of Shinken (real Japanese blades). The length of the blade is available from 2.20 shaku up to 2.45 shaku. Weight without Saya is 800 grams (2.45 to Shaku).
