This is a set of three "Tenryu" shinai made of Madake bamboo with a thicker tsuka.
While being a Dobari style shinai, the tip is made thicker to be more resilient. The thick handle and central weight makes for a very light and easy to use shinai. Available in a set of three shinai, this is a very economic way to get three great shinai for a great price!

Choose to add fittings to these shinai to receive Deluxe fittings attached to all three shinai!

Long lasting, but with some additional work on your part

I bought the set at the beginning of the year and used all three shinais in rotation for 10 months. Only one slat broke, on all of them, at almost exactly the same spot. All other three slats stayed as almost unused. I can see one could last much longer, if only I would regularly rotate the tsuka, so that all the slates would be used the same. I ordered another set to test my theory of longevity and since I have spare parts from before, I imagine I will not need to buy any more in the near future.

I only used one of the 3. It was quite good at the beginning. Well balanced and easy to move. It looked dry and I oiled it before use and waited for keiko. At the fourth keiko, one of the slat broken from the middle with a big crack. I'm experienced enough to know a proper hitting. The other 2 still waiting in their package but they won't live enough for sure. Unfortunately, a weak shinai.
