Tennen Rishin Ryu Bokuto
The Tennen Rishin Ryu Bokken is the heaviest and thickest among our stylized Bokuto. Its grip is significantly thicker than a standard Bokuto and if used for Suburi, you can work on developing a strong Tenouchi, the proper grip required for martial arts. Its heavy weight also requires you to have a strong posture and full body coordination.
What is Tennen Rishin-ryu?
Tennen Rishin Ryu was founded by Kondo Kuranosuke Nagahiro and gained fame through its 4th headmaster, Kondo Isami, who led the Shinsengumi.
The Shinsengumi, formed by the Tokugawa Shogunate to protect Kyoto during the late Edo period, selected its members based on martial arts skills, especially in Kenjutsu. The effectiveness of Tennen Rishin Ryu is highlighted by Kondo and his skilled associates Hijikata Toshizo and Okita Soji leading this elite group.
The style includes techniques in Kenjutsu, Bojutsu, Kogusoku (short sword), Jujutsu, and Iaijutsu. Today, Tennen Rishin Ryu is practiced by many dedicated students in Tokyo and Ibaraki.
