Seiryu - Gemon Koshirae Iaito
Gemon is a Buddhist gatha.
This Koshirae features a verse that Buddha said to one of his ten principal disciples, Mahakasyap. The quote is 法本法無法,無法法亦法,今付無法時,法法何曾法.
It translates as "the laws of dharma were initially not laws in the proper meaning of the word, but they became laws, hence the lawless state is also laws. and If laws are timeless, have laws of dharma ever been laws?"
The first verse is featured on Tsuba and the second on Fuchi/Kashira. The Tsuba and Tsukagashira are shaped in the unique Matsudaira Daigaku style. Vajra Menuki is made of brass as well. The tsuka is carefully hand-wrapped with the cotton braid over the white Tsukasame and the Sageo matches the Tsuka color. The saya lacquer is available in Kuroro, Kuroishime, or Chaishime. The blade is sand-casted from a bubble-free zinc/aluminum alloy; available up to 2.70 shaku.
*Iaito are made with an aluminum-zinc alloy blade and cannot be sharpened.
