Historically known as the 'drying pole' due to its great length, the sword of Sasaki Kojiro is certainly one of legends. Tozando is proud to present a new series of iaito specifically made for Mikami Yasuo's latest film 'Musashi'. This series of iaito are exact replicas of the swords used by the principle characters in the film. Sasaki Kojiro was hugely influential contemporary of Miyamoto Musashi, renowned for his not only his signature long-sword, but also his skill. Fate would have it that he would face Musashi on Ganryu-jima.
However this is not a prop, it has been made to be used as a true iaito. Do to its great length the blade is made from a single peice of crafted brass, whilst the tsuka, tsukamaki, saya and metal fittings have all been made in the traditional manner. Like all our iaito, this an authentic piece of Japanese craftsmanship that is meant to be used in Iaido training.
The film 'Musashi' is an ambitious piece directed by Mikami Yasuo (he also directed Shundou in 2013). Mikami strives to capture true authenticity in his works and consequently films entirely on location. This commitment to a genuine atmosphere led the director to choose Tozando to develop and provide the swords for the film.
Made to exacting specifications and featuring unique fittings and designs; this iaito is not only a splendid example of craftsmanship, but also wonderully balanced and prepared for training.
Like all our iaito, it is shipped internationally for free and comes under our 1-year warranty for a tsuka-maki re-wrap. The specifications are as listed below.
This is an iaito that has been designed and produced exactly like any other, but please bear in mind that as this choken is particularly long it is not appropriate for standard iaido practice. The blade is a non-ferrous alloy that is unsharpened. Because of the set design of this sword it cannot be altered or modified, but it is made to order and takes approximately 3 months to produce.
