This is a simple, yet elegantly practical koshirae designed in manner of the Satsuma samurai of the Bakumatsu period. This is an extra-long iaito that starts at 2.8 Shaku and has an elongated 1.1 Shaku tsuka (33.3cm). Other than its formidable length, it is distinguished by its lack of menuki, ikkan-maki wrapping and use of black cow leather instead of ray-skin - these are traditional styles adopted by the samurai of the Satsuma Domain towards the end of the Edo Period.

It would be the samurai from his domain under the leadership of Saigo Takamori, who would lead the rebellion that would restore the Emperor and abolish the shogunate, bringing about the modernization of Japan.

This koshirae is not only an interesting snapshot into Japanese history, but also a fully functional iaito that can be used for those who require a long blade. Due to the length of the tsuka it features two mekugi for extra stability and the blade has two bohi known a "futasuji" this is to reduce weight and increase the strength of the blade making it possible to handle its extreme length. Without saya this koshirae weighs approximately 1500g to 1650g depending on the final length chosen for the blade.
