Haori were originally sleeveless overcoats worn over yoroi armor to keep samurai warm during cold weather on the battlefield. As the samurai entered the prolonged peace of the Edo Jidai battles became uncommon and the haori was adapted to everyday use and eventually spread across all classes. Iaidogi are often very thin and can get cold during the winter, traditional haori can be used for a warm layer during cold keiko whilst retaining a traditional elegance.
This haori is made to match our Deluxe Polyester Dogi and Hakama, inter-woven with an anti-static nylon the polyester fabric is luxurious to the touch and easy to move in; essential for the dynamic movements of iaido. Each haori is handmade by our experience Heian Tailors at the heart of our headquarters in Nishijin, Kyoto.
