The newly imagined personification of Ganryu Sasaki Kojiro - Miyamoto Musashi's most famous adversary - in Mikami Yasuo's new film 'Musashi', is perfectly represented in this wonderfully imagined Sasaki Kojiro Koshirae. Taking a look at the character from a totally new perspective, this Kojiro refrains from the flamboyant airs attributed to him in many portrayals, and this iaito truly reinforces this new direction. Esoteric Buddhism and the delicate balance of life and death are recognized through the bonji symbols on the fuchi-kashira, the kongosho menuki, and in the crimson sagea which adorn the wonderful koshirae.
The film Musashi is an ambitious piece directed by Mikami Yasuo (he also directed Shundou in 2013). Mikami strives to capture true authenticity in his works and consequently films entirely on location. This commitment to a genuine atmosphere led the director to choose Tozando to develop and provide the swords for the film.
Made to exacting specifications and featuring unique fittings and designs; this iaito is not only a splendid example of craftsmanship, but also wonderully balanced and prepared for training.
Like all our iaito, it is shipped internationally for free and comes under our 1-year warranty for a tsuka-maki re-wrap. The specifications are as listed below.
Though designed specifically for the Musashi film, these swords have been made just like any other authentic Japanese iaito and can be used in regular iaido keiko. The blade is a non-ferrous alloy that is unsharpened.
The wakizashi cannot be altered, but the length of the daito's blade can be altered from 2.2 Shaku to 2.45 Shaku - the tsuka can be altered from 7.5 Sun to 8.5 Sun. Please request this when you make your order if you want to deviate from the standard length. These blades are made to order and take approximately 3 months to produce.
